We understand that it is easy to be overwhelmed when you or someone you love is struggling with mental health issues. At the Kittell Clinic, our mission is to provide excellent and professional services to individuals and families. We work with adolescents and adults with a wide range of emotional and mental health concerns. We strive to provide care for body, soul, mind and spirit for those in both individual and family settings at our mental health clinic in Little Rock. If we deem this issue serious we will refer you to specialist that we know and trust.
  • What are some of the warning signs of mental illness?

    Symptoms can vary depending on the type and severity of the condition. The following list is a general symptons that may suggest a mental disorder, particuraly when multiple symptoms are expressed at once.

    In adults: 

    • Confused thinking
    • Long-lasting sadness or irritability
    • Extreme highs and lows in mood
    • Excessive fear, worrying, or anxiety
    • Social withdrawal
    • Dramatic changes in eating or sleeping habits
    • Strong feelings of anger
    • Delusions or hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not really there)
    • Increasing inability to cope with daily problems and activities
    • Thoughts of suicide
    • Denial of obvious problems
    • Many unexplained physical problems
    • Abuse of drugs and/or alcohol

    In older children and pre-teens: 

    • Abuse of drugs and/or alcohol
    • Inability to cope with daily problems and activities
    • Changes in sleeping and/or eating habits
    • Excessive complaints of physical problems
    • Defying authority, skipping school, stealing, or damaging property
    • Intense fear of gaining weight
    • Long-lasting negative mood, often along with poor appetite and thoughts of death
    • Frequent outbursts of anger

    In younger children:

    • Changes in school performance
    • Poor grades despite strong efforts
    • Excessive worrying or anxiety
    • Hyperactivity
    • Persistent nightmares
    • Persistent disobedience and/or aggressive behavior
    • Frequent temper tantrums
  • What causes mental illness?

    The exact source of mental illness is not know, but research points to a mix of genetic, bilogical, psychosocial and environmental factors can have an effect. 

  • What does it mean to have a mental illness?

    Mental illness are health conditions that disrupt a person's thoughts, emotions, relationships and daily life. Some mental illnesses can be failry mild and only interfere with some aspects, while others can be more serious and require personal services. 

    It's important to know that mental illness are medical conditions. They have nothing to do with a person's character, inteligence or willpower. Just like other disorder, including diabetes and pancreas, mental illness is a medical condition due to the brain's biology. 

  • What treatment options are available?

    Just like there are several different types of medication for physical illness, different treatment options are available for individuals with mental illness. Treatment can work differently for people, but here at the Kittell Clinic we will work with you and help find the best treatment option for you or your loved one.
